feest and party till you drop ! With: Fly Bobby D. (Bob Degener - guitar and backing vox) It really doesn't matter. Any soul, funk or dance-classic and he will play, for you, for us, for himself ! As long as he can link the rhythm to the harmony and melody, Fly Bob's OK ! He is a really shy guy; but once you get to know him, there's a riot going on ! Wahwahs all the way down to a deep funkin' level. You will know when Fly Bobby D. 's in da house... After graduating from the Rotterdam Conservatory, Bob played in numerous bands. With one of these bands, Sue Chaloner's Soul Train he toured through Europe, Denmark and Germany in particular. Played numerous gigs in Northern Africa with a strong allround band. Together with Arvid, he's been playing in various bands in jazzdance, soul and funk since 1994. Together with Chris he has performed in 'De Notenclub', a musical quizshow on television. Dr. A (Arvid Hendriks - bass guitar and backing vox) The doctor of the groove. Just bring it on, as long as it's on the one ! He's sworn to play the groove, the whole groove and nothing but the groove. Being a small guy with a big mouth, he always lives the show to the maxx with his platform shoes, his funky shirts and his pink glasses. Catch him together with 5 and you'll witness some low-down, dirty, nitty-gritty groovin' soulful funk and funky soul ! While attending university, Arvid extended his musical pleasures and highschool bands to being a frontman in a rhythm, blues and soul band doing a year of extensive performing. He has played in a number of jazzdance, soul, funk and disco oriented bands over the last 10 years. As of 1995 he has been playing with Mariken, Bob and Chris in various bands and formations. Next to the Groove 'Xpress he writes, plays and produces his own compositions, currently a nusoul project. Chris 5 (Chris van de Vijfeijke - drums) 5's the heart. The heart of the Groove 'Xpress. It's like how the Whispers called it: And the beat goes on ! And know one thing: with 5 it'll always go on. While the beat goes on, he produces the deep feel of old-time 70's and 80's dance and funk: steady, on the one, but with a definite specific 5 influence or to quote Deee-lite: groove is in the heart ! A graduate from the Rotterdam conservatory, Chris' played in various bands ranging from jazz-rock to funk. On the international musical exhibit in Frankfurt, Germany in 1995, Chris was the runner-up as the biggest drum talent in Europe. With Bob, he performed as part of the houseband on 'De Notenclub', a musical quizshow on television. 200 % Soul (Mariken van der Meer - lead vox) The girl's got it goin' on ! Call it the presence of the soul. With Fly Bob and Dr. A, she bops till she drops on stage, building the funkiest show ! Prime cut of soul, she lives the nature of the groove, adding the voice to it. The heart of the show. You want it good, you call on 200 % Soul ! Mariken was raised with music, having a mother who's a classically oriented singer. She sang in not so many different bands, but hundreds of gigs, ranging from small bars to big festivals. Together with Chris, she was part of the houseband of a regional radio show. Why ? Unmistakably, the groove sucks you in ! The Dr. Hendriks Groove 'Xpress moved from performing as an allround formation (under a different name) to what it all boils down to, groove and soul. But not just covering those fantastic songs from the 70's and 80's. Anyone can prove their commitment to those old masterpieces like Sexmachine, Brickhouse, What's going on, etc. by covering them. Not the Dr. Hendriks Groove 'Xpress, however… In our hearts, paying real tribute to those songs means lifting them to a different level. You can reach this level first of all if you share a musical and soulful history like he musicians of the Groove 'Xpress. Second of all, having played as many gigs as the Groove 'Xpress has, we are able to grab the musical essence of the songs and give them a typical Groove 'Xpress twist. But lastly, we produce a unique xtravaganza, because of our combined love for soul, funk and dance-classics. Almost every song has that Groove 'Xpress twist with, as an xtravagant finale, the soul classics ‘Xpress ! Anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes of unlimited, uninterrupted, unparalleled disco, dance, soul and funk Xtravaganza… But remember: the only aim for the Groove ‘Xpress is to build a party to last as long as you want !
